How a business was started out of adversity
In 1975 Glen's father, Eldon T. Sinnamon, was diagnosed with cancer and
given 6 months to live. Despite being devastated and overwhelmed with uncertainty, he resisted despair and shifted his focus onto the possibility
of a more positive outcome rather than focusing on his fears.
As he researched the globe, it soon became apparent that certain dietary practices and lifestyle changes could provide significant
therapeutic benefits. Benefits that might help extend his life.
This is when he discovered sprouts. A plant in it's sprouting phase has an extremely high concentration of nutrients, more than any other stage in a plant’s life. This made sprouts an excellent addition to his diet. They were nutrient-dense, quick, easy, and convenient to add to almost any meal.
However, in the late '70's Eldon found that most supermarkets only carried wilted, half spoiled sprouts that were imported from the U.S.
What he was looking for, and needed, was something robust, alive, safe and
at its prime in terms of nutrients.
“Sprouts are baby plants in their prime".
At this stage of their growth, they have a greater concentration of proteins, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and riboflavin than at any other point in the
plant’s life, even when compared with the mature vegetable.
So, in 1982 Eldon's family started the Sprout business and began growing sprouts in Alberta for the Canadian market. The facility quickly grew as
a superior product was presented to the market.
Our family enjoy eating sprouts everyday.
For that reason we made a conscious decision to grow our products
organically and resisted using anything that would compromise the
integrity of our sprouts.
Even at the beginning our growing technique was unique.
We were the only Sprouts grower using surgical grade stainless vertical growing system. Other growers used plastic trays, plastic buckets or even burlap sacks to grow their sprouts. Stainless steel equipment enabled us to produce a very high-quality sprout with the integrity that was required for
food safety.

Not only did we enjoy our Dad for another 10 years, but because of his illness,
his research, and his dedication, a new business evolved and is still growing today.
